The Blurry Line, Part I:

Is This Just in My Head?

Or, How My Nervous System Became a Switchboard for Spirit Calls.

At one point or another I’ve had full conversations with spirits that felt so internal, I’ve stopped mid-sentence and thought: Wait. Am I just talking to myself? And honestly? Maybe sometimes I am. But then I’ll ask for a sign — something to help me trust what I’m experiencing. Let’s say during one of those inner dialogues, owls come up (because why not). I’ll think: "Okay, if this is more than just me… show me an owl."

And somehow, an owl shows up.

Maybe it’s outside the house, perched in a tree like it wandered out of a fairytale. Maybe my kid brings me a drawing of one out of nowhere or my husband, completely unaware of the mental owl-summoning I’ve been doing, randomly wants to talk about an owl article he just read. And I’m just left blinking at him like I’ve just experienced a glitch in the Matrix.

The point is, your experience always valid if it resonates with you, regardless as to its origin.

⚡️ My Body, the Antenna

When I say I “feel” spirit, I mean that literally — not metaphorically or emotionally (though sometimes that too). For me, a lot of spirit communication happens through my nervous system. It shows up as pressure, subtle tingling, or a shift in body temperature. Sometimes it’s a goosebump moment. Sometimes it’s a specific tension or pull in certain muscles — like a spiritual game of hot and cold.

Over time, I’ve noticed patterns. When King Belial shows up, I tend to feel a dense sort of heaviness on my shoulders and neck. When Lucifer’s around, it’s more like a tightness through my hips and upper thighs — like something’s grounding me. Sometimes it’s subtle, sometimes it’s strong, but there’s usually something noticeably different going on that I can sort of cling to.

That said, this is my way of experiencing it. Yours might be completely different. Some folks see colors. Some hear tones. Some get words, or scents, or full-on visuals. I don’t think there’s one right way to feel a presence.

What I have noticed — both in myself and in folks I’ve talked to — is that these sensations are easier to detect when your nervous system is relatively calm. If you’re already keyed up, anxious, or overstimulated, it can be harder to tell what’s “just you” and what might be something more. That doesn’t mean the experience isn’t happening — just that your internal signal is harder to read through the static.

🧠 What If I Am Just Making It Up?

This is a question I ask myself regularly. Not in a self-doubting way (well, okay — sometimes in a self-doubting way), but mostly because it’s actually a fascinating thing to think about.

The way I’ve come to understand it — my working theory — is that spirit communication often comes through the same brain wiring we use for imagination. So if a guide or presence wants to get a message through, they’re going to use the symbols, memories, and references I already have in my personal mental library.

For someone else, those symbols would be totally different. If you love clowns, a guide might show up in clown form as a kind of personal shorthand for joy or childhood wonder. If you’re scared of clowns, I imagine they’d skip that look entirely — unless they’re being particularly dramatic, which, you know… does happen.

So in that way, “imagination” isn’t something that discredits the message — it’s the medium that allows it to come through.

The spirit might be holding the pen, but imagination is the ink and the message, no matter how surreal, still finds its way to you.

This idea might not land for everyone, and that’s okay. Some people experience these things in ways that feel entirely separate from imagination, and I respect that completely. But for me, the line between “imagined” and “channeled” is a lot fuzzier — and a lot more magical — than I once believed.

💬 Cauldron Prompt:

Have you ever received a “sign” that was weirdly, beautifully specific?

Felt something in your body that didn’t quite feel like yours, but still rang true?

Do you ever wonder if you’re imagining it — and keep listening anyway?

Toss your story in the Cauldron. No right answers here — just reflections, fragments, and your favorite flavors of mystery. 🧠✨🫖
